Embrace imperfection

One thing that you learn very quickly, if you live in a Victorian property like I do, is that you are never going to achieve the perfect plaster finish that is associated with 'new builds'.  A lot of clients spend a lot of money of attempting to give an old property a completely modern interior finish and when this look is achieved it looks stunning.

However, if you are on a bit more of a budget, you can take a different psychological approach and learn to love the quirks of your home.  Below is a good example: proudly displaying brickwork turns it into a feature which is not costly and which also embraces the natural beauty of the house.
