Designing a Coffee House: Part 4

Yesterday I spoke about how it is important to provide both comfortable seating and economical (with regard to space) seating.  There is, however, another compromise that needs to be considered.  Many people come to Coffee houses on their own to study or read - what you don't want is such people taking up a 4 person table.  As a result it is vital to provide single patrons with places to sit without them taking up a disproportionate amount of space.

On the other hand, it is also necessary to cater for groups of people (such as students and Mums with prams).  If a Coffee house is insensitive to large groups then they are waving goodbye to a huge amount of custom.  A good way to cater for groups is to line large chunks of the walls with sofas (faced by chairs) which can be either shared by 2 small groups or used by one large group.

When entering into a venture such as a Coffee house all Design decisions must be made very much with potential patrons in mind - from the single book reader to the group of mods!
